Summer System Stress

The long days of summer bring hot and humid temperatures to many areas. Higher temperatures increase the need for cooling indoors all day long. Increased electrical use during the summertime increases the risk of fire in homes with older or damaged wiring systems. Air conditioning and home cooling demands during long periods of hot weather can strain and overload a home's electrical system, making a serious shock and fire hazard. Read more

ACTION ALERT: YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW ON EPA THREAT

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently considering proposals to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. The author of the Clean Air Act stated this would result in a "glorious mess" as it was never intended nor designed to regulate these emissions.

It is the responsibility of Congress to determine any climate change legislation, not the EPA.

Tell Congress that they need to step in and prevent EPA from using the Clean Air Act as a tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It's the role of Congress to determine greenhouse gas policy that is fair and affordable for all Americans.

Were the EPA to act, the effect could be similar to what could happen if cap and trade were passed - higher electric bills for Missouri consumers.

Right-Of-Way Maintenance Notification to Members

Reliable service and public safety are key objectives for CEC. In order to achieve these objectives, CEC operates a vegetation management plan.

Members living in the Mexico, Auxvasse, Laddonia, Martinsburg and Wellsville areas should expect to see Right-Of-Way Contractors working during the spring and summer months. Members with account numbers beginning with 10-31, 10-32, 10-36 or 10-37 should have received mail notification of this service in early May.

All contractors are qualified, trained and licensed in vegetation management. They will be using a low volume application spray and will only be spraying within the Cooperative's right-of-way easement. The Cooperative easement extends 30 feet on both sides of the power line. All products used are fully labeled and registered with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Contractors may be required to resort to mechanical means to maintain the right-of-way in some areas.

Members with questions about the vegetation manangement plan can call Dave Null at 1-800-621-0091 or 573-581-3630.

GIS Field Inventory Is Going On Now

In an effort to better serve the membership in a more efficient and productive manner, Consolidated Electric Cooperative is implementing a Geographical Information System (GIS). GIS is a digital mapping system that will provide CEC employees with detailed information about our electrical network and its operation. Learn more about why you may see contractors working in your area.
